Podcast Episode #14 -The Biology of Belief

Episode #14 of the Xtraordinary Living podcast is out. The topic is The Biology of Belief.

In our courses PL&L clients hear how are thoughts create our feelings, which then create emotions, which lead to actions and then to the results we see in our lives. In this informative Xtraordinary Living Podcast, you will hear Dr. Bruce Lipton’s “new biology” scientific evidence to support how our thinking creates our reality. We also discuss how this leading-edge science dovetails with mind-body medicine and spiritual principles.

In this 14th Episode you will hear:
– The difference between the “new biology” and the “old biology.”
– How our perceptions, attitudes and thoughts about our environment affect our day-to-day existence.
– How there are no real “cancer genes.”
– Why some people express “spontaneous remission” from illnesses.
– How “everyday stress” affects our body’s cells and their ability to keep us healthy or prone to dis-ease.
– How our early formative years establish a subconscious belief system far more powerful than our conscious mind.
– What we can do today to stop the “playback” of our default behaviors.
– And much more!

Curiosity killed the cat?

I’m a very curious person, and I like numbers. This combination is what prompted me to write this post. While I can currently get the number of visitors to our Xtraordinary Living blog, I have no idea who they are. The curious part of me would love to know this information. Since one of the reasons I started the blog was to have a vehicle to experiment and have fun with — read one of my earliest posts — I’m really excited about this one. Also, another fun part of creating the blog is surprising my partner Lindon – since he never knows what kind of “entrepreneurial seizure” I’ll have next!

I decided to offer you a “quid pro quo.” In exchange for you letting me know who you are, I will give you a gift. I’m offering you one of our audio CD programs as a gift. All you have to do is click here. As an FYI – at PL&L we never sell, share or trade any of your information – ever.

I would also welcome any comments you have. Another reason I started this blog was to have a conversation. Anytime you comment it allows me the opportunity to do so.

No More Spam

One of my co-workers recently asked me to have her email removed from our website because she was getting so much spam. Her request made me realize how long it had been since I had gotten any spam messages.

The reason I hardly get ANY spam is because about a year ago I started using a service called Spam Arrest. It is based on a Challenge/Response system that allows you to control whose email you choose to receive. Any email that is not approved by you gets challenged. This means that the sender has to take several steps to get their email approved. This requires human intervention. And since 99% of email is sent by computers, these emails are stuck in Cyberspace. Very simple and yet very effective. It is also very affordable – about $3/month. They also offer a 30-day free trial that allows you to try it before you buy it.

If you find your email box with more spam that you want, I encourage you to check this out.

What constitutes Xtraordinary Living?

I was asked that question by a course-participant this weekend. My response was the first time I really articulated my personal vision of the concept to others. You see to me Xtraordinary Living is a combination of things. Here’s a partial list — in no particular order:

– When you can’t wait to get up in the morning and you hate going to bed at night because life is so exciting.
– Dealing with adversity in such a way that you grow from it and also inspire others.
– Regularly having “one-of-a-kind” type of adventures that very few people get to experience i.e. swimming with whales, traveling through Europe on the “Orient Express”, being in the middle of the Serengetti plains with the animal migration all around you, etc.
– Having strong intimate relationships with family, friends and work associates.
– Having a job/career/business that doesn’t feel like work.
– Accepting the necessary risks so that I don’t ever say “I wish I would have…”
– Continually “pushing the envelope” as to what is possible.

What does Xtraordinary Living mean to you? Or as the kid in the movie “What the Bleep do we know?” would ask: “How far down the rabbit whole do you want to go?”

Podcast Episode #13 – 200 MPH Extraordinary Woman

Episode #13 of the Xtraordinary Living podcast is out. The topic is 200 MPH Extraordinary Woman.

In this episode I interview PL&L client Susan Robertson, who became the world’s fastest woman in open wheeled motorcycle racing when she posted a 205 mph run on the race course at El Mirage, California on July 17, 2005. Land Speed Racing is a unique sport that consists of very determined people who drive motorcycles, hot rods, streamliners, and even diesel trucks to “shoot the salt” at the Bonneville Salt Flats — in a quest to push the limits.

In this 13th episode you’ll hear:
– How Susan’s interests as a young girl led to this out-of-the-ordinary hobby.
– Why she pursues the challenge of breaking speed records, in a competition where both men and women are gauged equally.
– How the PL&L courses she has taken through her position at Red Mountain Retail Group (RMRG), along with the ones she has taken on her own have influenced her drive to lead an extraordinary life.
– What do her boyfriend, family and friends think about her “hobby.”
– Hear how she had to make a decision to “make her run” after a tragic accident occurred prior to her scheduled event.

Xtraordinary Living at it’s best

The story of Dick & Rick Hoyt – father & son – is incredibly inspiring. Please read this article Strongest Dad in the World so you can get the background that will allow you to enjoy the above video.

Customer Service?

For the past couple of months, my wife Jessica has been actively shopping around for new appliances for our kitchen – yes I finally “gave in” and we are doing a kitchen remodel. She finally found what she was looking for so this morning she called in to give them our credit card number so they could run the deposit for our order.

Turns out that the company she is buying the appliances from has a policy that prevents them from accepting credit cards over the phone. This means that if we want to buy the appliances from this establishment, we need to drive about 45 minutes to physically bring our credit card to conform to their policy. I offered several alternatives and the answer was still the same – unless we drove and physically handed our credit card, they wouldn’t accept it. This is a great example of the company doing what’s good for the company regardless of the impact it has on the customer. Needless to say, I’m already looking for alternatives because I don’t want to do business with companies that operate this way.

Yesterday I wrote a post about some of the challenges that we face at PL&L. Today’s experience really highlights the need for us to focus on creating intimacy and relationships with our customers. I certainly hope that nobody feels towards PL&L the way that I feel towards this appliance company. So if you ever start to feel like we don’t care about what is important to you, please let me know personally and I will do my best to address this do, please let me know because we’ll need to

Walking the talk

Earlier this week we had a staff meeting at PL&L. One of the purposes of these meetings is to help us assess how we are doing in our journey to become an Xtraordinary business. You see, “walking our talk” is one of our core values at PL&L. If our courses are all about pursuing the concept of “Xtraordinary Living,” then the business of PL&L needs to be reflective of this.

Unfortunately, so far this year we have been operating at a very ordinary level. While our business is doing OK, we certainly are not doing great. Jim Collins addresses this in his book “Good to Great” when he writes: “Good is the enemy of Great”. The reason why it is so hard for businesses to do great on a consistent basis, is because “good” is often “good enough.” That certainly has been true for us so far this year.

This meeting provided a great forum for us to have some much needed conversations about what it is that we need to do to get back on the Xtraordinary track. The result was well worth it. We walked out of the meeting with a renewed sense of purpose of commitment to our vision and our values.

Living an Xtraordinary Life does not mean that you don’t go off track from time to time. However it does mean that once you notice you’re off track, you immediately get yourself back on track. If you are reading this blog, I ask that you support me and PL&L by holding us accountable anytime you see that we are not operating from an Xtraordianry place.

Managing your favorite web addresses (bookmarks)

I travel extensively as part of my job. Since I don’t want to carry a laptop with me, I rely on cybercafes to access the Internet while I’m traveling. One of the drawbacks of this is that I don’t have access to my bookmarks. Thanks to Linkagogo.com I now can conveniently and affordably (free) access all my bookmarks while away from my computer.

Even if you don’t travel, this site allows you to store a backup of your bookmarks – a real good idea in case your hard drive dies.
